The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Park Street, Devizes, dates from the Norman times and is one of the most important buildings in the town, with the church tower a particular landmark. The building is listed Grade I, putting it amongst the top 2.5% of listed buildings in the country.
There are exciting plans in progress to turn it into a Arts, Music and Community event space, with a refurbished interior and modern facilities housed in a new-build. Despite planning setbacks, we are continuing planning negotiations regarding the future of the building and we put on a great range of events thoughout the year.
Great Reviews for Sister Act
The wonderful Invitation theatre company once again put on an amazing production, to much critical acclaim and masssive positive feedback.
Later in the year they will be performing 'War of the Worlds' - tickets are on sale now!
Thanks to our Supporters
We wish to thank all the members of the public who continue to support us, and those wonderful event organisers who choose to use St. Mary for their shows and meetings. A special mention must go to The Invitation Theatre Company (TITCo) who put on major shows each year to sell out audiences, not least the recent 'Sister Act'. We're also looking forwad to seeing them perform the classic 'War of the Worlds' later in the year.
When completed, the church will go from a closed building with occasional services into a much visited, dynamic environment that will encourage participation in a wide variety of activities... to be an asset to the town instead of merely an interesting background view.
